ESO needs young trombonists

As part of its busy programme of education and community projects, the English Symphony Orchestra has for a number of years run an ongoing series of orchestral courses aimed at beginner (Grades 1-3) and intermediate (Grades 4-7) players. The courses are non-residential and take place over two days during the half-term holidays at the Downs Preparatory School in Colwall, near Malvern in Worcestershire. The two days include full and sectional rehearsals with tuition from the ESO principals, as well as activities and games designed to promote all-round musicianship and team work. The weekend concludes with a short informal concert for parents and relatives.

Although the core of the orchestra is from the Hereford and Worcestershire area, the orchestra has in the past had participants from across England. Although the courses are non-residential, the Malverns are a wonderful setting for a short break and many parents leave their children for a weekend’s music-making, while they go off to explore the hills.

The next courses are 7-8 June (Beginner) and 9-10 June (Intermediate). The orchestra is particularly keen to attract trombone and tuba players, though performers on all orchestral and band instruments are most welcome.
