In addition to the main Festival, on Saturday, 26 October we have planned a number of youth events led by Tom Lees and Becky Pepper, where younger players will get the chance to learn from some of our visiting artists.
There will be massed ensembles, masterclasses, and interactive classes covering all styles of playing, from Early to Modern. Trade stands will be available for you to try all of the latest equipment.
'Lesson Lotto' will give attendees the chance to have a short lesson with one of our visiting artists - look out for updates on how to enter to win one of these.
All our competition finals will be held over the weekend; this is a great chance to showcase the finalists with you as audience members.
Closing the first day of BTF24, we present a fantastic three set jazz concert in the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire's very own Eastside Jazz Club. As well as the second appearance of the day from the extraordinary trombone virtuoso Nils Wogram, this time in quartet setting, we also have Dave Sear’s stellar quintet with Percy Pursglove and the inaugural gig of a new trombones-and-rhythm-section band, Brum Bones.
The incredible German trombonist Nils Wogram will be appearing with a top professional British rhythm section, playing a set of jazz standards and a selection of his own unique compositions, firmly rooted in the jazz tradition but drawing inspiration from many other musical genres.
Dave Sear is swiftly becoming recognised as a leading soloist in contemporary jazz, forging an individual voice that is increasingly getting noticed at higher and higher levels of the professional jazz scene. Trumpet star Percy Pursglove has found time in his busy NDR Big Band schedule to join him in what promises to be a spectacular two brass frontline playing tunes from Dave’s debut album I always thought my thoughts were me.
Finally, Dave Sear joins newly formed Brum Bones, a band of esteemed Royal Birmingham Conservatoire alumni featuring trombonists Tom Dunnett, Richard Foote, Jeremy Price and Lyndon Meredith, for a set of new compositions and arrangements.
This will certainly be a night to remember!
The Jazz Evening is separate ticketed event within BTF24.
