Star value

As Christiano Ronaldo heads for Real Madrid, a new star signing in Cardiff is causing heads to turn in the brass world...

Christian Lindberg has just been appointed to a new International Chair at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. The multitalented performer will be working as a composer, conductor as well as trombone player benefiting several departments.

We wanted someone who could cover all areas and styles of brass playing - not someone devoted specifically to orchestral or brass band music - and of course he is the ideal choice.

His first visit will be 1-4 March next year, working with the entire brass department and brass band. In future he will also be working with the wind orchestra.

Lindberg is just one of several 'Jane Hodge Foundation International Chairs' that have been formed to expose the RWCMD students to the best teachers in the world.

Forthcoming RWCMD events:
* Friday 2 October 2009, 1300 RWCMD Weston Gallery, Chris Houlding trombone recital
* Friday 6 November 2009, 1300 RWCMD Weston Gallery Brass quintet recital-The Ni Ensemble (Luxemburg)
* Tuesday 2 March 2010, Christian Lindberg will conduct and perform with Bob Childs and the RWCMD Band
