The Bob Hughes Bass Trombone Competition 2016

The finals of the biennial Bob Hughes Bass Trombone Competition were held in the Great Hall of Oundle School at the Annual General Meeting and East Anglia Trombone Day on Sunday 20th November 2016.

The finalists were Adam Crighton, Kyle MacCorquodale and Sam Taber and the judging panel, Dave Stewart (Studio Player, Principal Bass Trombone – BBC Concert Orchestra and Professor at the Guildhall and Royal College of Music), Adrian Taylor (Trombonist, Conductor, Teacher and Composer) and Dave Vines (Principal Bass Trombone – City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra).

A unanimous decision from the judges awarded Kyle MacCorquodale winner of the 2016 Competition. Kyle wins the Bob Hughes Trophy, seen here presented by Bob and a Wiseman custom-built carbon-fibre trombone case.

Well done to all competitors in this year's competition. A full report of the event will be published in the Spring edition of the Trombonist magazine.
