Roger Argente is reluctantly selling his Contra-Bass Trombone.

It hasn't been played for 5 years now, the instrument just takes up too much space and it should go to a good home

Since moving back to the Land of Song and Cardiff in South Wales, Roger's job is more based around teaching, coaching and the general day to day running of a large Conservatoire Brass Department, and he therefore have very little time to even play the regular Bass Trombone let alone the Contra.

It was purchased in February 2002.

It's a hand-made model from Master Craftsman Franz Monschau at Haag Instruments in Switzerland.

They are currently selling new for approximately £14,000 or €16,000.

The model has two independent Thayer Valves and is pitched in F/C/Db/A

Unusually for Contras this instrument has seven positions and has a handle for use on outer positions.

The instrument has a 10.5 inch bell.

The instrument because was (and still is) the instrument of choice for all the top LA based studio players such as Bill Reichenbach.

Included in the sale is an Amrein gig bag, plus a custom made (wheeled) flight case. It also comes with three Mouthpieces….

During Roger's playing career both in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and free-lancing and as a session musician he has enjoyed using the instrument immensely.
